MNF [a week later]

A week ago I got to experience a new first.

J decided to take me to last week's Monday Night Football game
and it was the first NFL game I have never been to.

He's been to a handful of games both in CO and CA but would always go with his buddies. It came up after the last time he went that I had still never been and to my pleasant surprise he decided to take me to this game!

I've never been a die-hard football fan but have always enjoyed watching the games and rooting for the Navy and Orange. Plus it was such a different experience actually being at the game as opposed to just watching it on TV. We got to see the skydivers enter the stadium, got to enjoy a few cold beers and had many high-fives with the excited crowd around our seats.

The weather was perfect that night, our seats were along the 45 yard-line even though they were high up and the best of all was the company of my husband without worrying about all the studying I should have been doing.

Who knows when I'll get the chance to go to another game thanks to the crazy month of October I have coming up but I am so glad I finally got to my first NFL game and enjoyed a night of freedom when I could.

Plus it doesn't hurt that they killed the Raiders ;-)

Wardrobe Refashion

Inspired by Lindsay @ Hello Hue, I decided to try my hand at refashioning some pieces in my wardrobe. She did a great post a while back on how to make more pieces out of the dresses you already own and turn them into skirts. Now this doesn't work for all dresses as it lends itself best to those with flowing bottoms but for a backyard BBQ and a night out with friends I think I found a winner.
This green dress is from American Eagle a few years ago and I absolutely adore it. It's super soft cotton, the perfect length and it even has pockets! Pockets on a dress take it to a whole different level, don't you think? Unfortunately it has really thin straps and a pretty deep V-cut which sometimes is just more annoying than it's worth. So following Lindsay's tips, I folded the top of the dress inside the bottom, tucked in a plain white cami and belted the whole thing.

I got so many compliments wearing this outfit that I don't think I'll ever wear the dress "the regular" way again!

Labor Day 2013

It was basically a miracle this past weekend that I had almost 4 entire days free from school! I'm not sure if or when that will happen again before Christmas time so we were sure to take full advantage. I did have an 8am exam on Friday morning but spent the rest of the weekend having as much stress-free fun as I could.

Friday afternoon was spent relaxing, watching a movie and finishing my HIPPA training followed by a few errands and a lovely dinner at my new favorite restaurant. I was greeted by this big guy right outside my mom's house the next morning and sometimes still can't believe we're back in CO.
Saturday we headed to Taste Of Colorado downtown and although we made the mistake of going during the hottest hours of the day I think we both enjoyed trying some new food and going out for an adventure together. The afternoon and into the evening was spent with J's sister at some sports bars for a few drinks and college football.
Two of our great friends, who we celebrated with this summer, came and stayed with us Sunday night and I am so thankful for friends like them. We spent hours upon hours just catching up with them late into the night. J and I have always gotten along so well with them as a couple and it was great to spent some time with them.
Breakfast the next morning followed by a gorgeous (and super hot) walk with our pups filled most of Monday for us. Thankfully we brought plenty of water for the pups and even dipped our toes in the stream to cool off before our friends headed home for the day.

This weekend was exactly what J and I needed. Med school is living up to my expectations but unfortunately that means stressful, busy, and often times over-worked, leaving J and I feeling quite distant sometimes. It's weekends like this that make me realize this is just a season of life and to truly embrace the moments of fun, spontaneity and time with my husband that much more.

Here's to the start of another (thankfully, short) week and plenty more opportunities for fun in the future.
