Medical School Week 1

My first week of medical school is done.
And we are surviving at this point.

Week 1 has basically been half of my undergraduate sciences classes
rolled into 5 days of class.
It's been like a tidal wave.

They said there would be an adjustment period and that is 100% the truth.
Adjusting to better time management,
something that I used to think I was good at.
But on this level it's tooootally different.

Adjusting to balancing school and studying
(which seems to be all I have time for)
with being married, having friends, seeing family.

Not to mention finding time to eat (down 4 lbs already), workout, sleep and be sane.

Adjusting to realizing that I've worked so hard to get here, now I have to stay here.
I'm sure it will get easier and more manageable even within the next week.
But for now this is basically how I've spent all my time lately.

Oh and did I mention Exam #1 is today already. 10am.

I'm thankful for my husband who understands this madness
and tells me that he's proud of me.
And for my mom who offers to bring over a cooked dinner
and leaves me presents of new shampoo.

Bring it on week two, I can take it.

Crunch Time

Now that I am officially done with work we're in full-time moving mode around here!

Stacks of boxes are growing taller and invading every room. Tasks are being crossed off the to-do list but also continuously being added. Cabinets, closets, and drawers are starting to be emptied and yet somehow our house seems like a storm went through it with all the mess we've created. I've been sipping on lots of coffee and letting myself relax occasionally with walks for the pup who is over joyed to have someone home all day.

Here's a glimpse into our crazy life from the past few days.

Today also happens to be Ollie's 3rd birthday so there might be a bowl full of whipped cream in his future tonight. He's been super cuddly and begging for any & all attention today which just shows that even he knows it's his special day :-) We also have dinner plans for the evening and what do you know, more packing planned for the rest of the weekend. Hopefully we're able to throw in a bit of fun relaxing over the long weekend because I know next week is going to be crazy busy too! Wish us luck!

Current countdown to the big CO move:
7 days!

See Ya Later, San Diego

For the last 6 years I've called San Diego my home. I've lived here, gone to school here, made many friends here, grew my relationship with J here and basically became an adult here. The experiences I've gained while living 1000+ miles from my family and the place where I grew up are some that have made me into the person I am today and I will forever be grateful for them.

But this time is coming to a close. We have been hoping to move back to Colorado for many years to be closer to our amazing friends and wonderful family. And well, that dream has finally come true. And while I am ecstatic that we can now move home there is still a part of me that will be sad to leave the "home" I've had for so long.

We aren't sure exactly when this move will happen because a lot of it is dependent on things we can't control (ie new job, housing market, etc etc) but we know that it will be sometime before the end of June. So we've created our "See Ya Later, San Diego" List of things we need to do before the move. Things that we either can't do in CO (hello Ocean!), things that are exclusive to San Diego (greasy, authentic Mexican food) or things that mean a lot to us because of the memories we have from living here. Yes, most of them involve food. Oops. And I'm sure there will be additions to the list as the time goes on.

I'm going to try and document these things as we cross them off our list. But don't worry, I wont bore you with tons of pictures of my In-n-Out cheeseburgers because I'm sure those will be many. Also, if you live in/near San Diego and think we're missing something, tell me and we'll add it on!

Tying the Knot: Checklist Update

Things have been so hectic around here ever since we got back from vacation that I seriously don't know how it's the second week in October already! I've really been feeling like there aren't enough days in the week and hours in a day to accomplish everything I want/need to get done. Between planning a wedding, applying to med school again, working, trying to keep up a house and spend time with my fiance the days are just slipping by. But thankfully we've gotten a lot done on the wedding front recently so check it out.

+ Pick a wedding date
+ Choose your wedding party
+ Find a ceremony site
+ Choose a ceremony officiant
+ Plan the ceremony details (unity, readings, etc)
+ Find a reception site
+ Plan the guest list
+ Plan the VIPs/toasts for the reception

+ Pick a caterer
+ Decide on a menu
+ Find a florist
+ Find a photographer
+ Find a DJ/Band
After a bit of trouble we have finally found someone we like who isn't going to flake on us and isn't too expensive!
+ Find a bakery
+ Decide on a cutting cake
+ Find salon/hairstylist/make-up artist

+ Have an engagement party
+ Take engagement pictures
+ Have a bridal shower
+ Have bachelor/bachelorette parties
+ Plan rehearsal dinner
A huge thank-you is in order to J's mom for taking on this task and running with it. Such a huge relief and we're so grateful!

+Find wedding dress
+ Decide on a veil
Notice that it says 'Decide'. J wants to know absolutely nothing when it comes to me (which I love) so even a yes or no about a veil is out of the question.
+ Find bridal shoes
+ Pick other accessories
+ Decide on Old/New/Borrowed/Blue traditions
Most of these were easy like my dress & shoes and certain pieces of jewelry and my favorite is a blue OPI nail polish for my toes that has my new last name in the title!
+ Pick out bridesmaid dresses
+ Pick out tuxes
+ Decide on wedding bands

+ Have dress fittings and alterations
+ Buy wedding party gifts
Part way finished but not giving any details yet!
+ Buy gifts for our parents
+ Buy gifts for each other
+ Plan special dances & "must have" list of songs
+ Figure out day-of transportation
+ Set up wedding registry
We've opted for a more modern take on a registry where it's specifically tied to our honeymoon instead.
+ Book night-of hotel room
+ Book Block of Hotel Rooms
Done and done!
+ Book honeymoon
+ Place flower order
Can't wait to see what our florist comes up with since I've given a bit of freedom for these.
+ Place bakery order
Nothing Bundt Cakes bundtinis for everyone!
+ Send Save The Dates
+ Design Invitations
+ Send Invitations
This is happening this afternoon once I'm done with work! I love how they turned out!
+ Make guest book
+ Design wedding website
+ Decide on wedding favors
+ Create slideshow
And I cry every time I watch it. But more importantly, does anyone know how to burn it to a DVD with a Mac? Help a future-bride!
+ Make ceremony programs
+ Make escort/place cards
We decided on a multi-picture frame where each table will be listed with their appropriate guests instead of individually  making one for each person.
+ Write vows
+ Get marriage license

37/50 52
Over 70% with a little under 3 months left!

But seriously, who can teach me how to burn a DVD? Ha!
Happy Wednesday!

Tying The Knot: Wedding Inspiratoin

I hadn't realized that it had been since the first day of the year that I had blogged. I guess that just shows how busy and crazy things have been around here. Between....

1) finishing up our trip in CO by spending as much time as we could with family and friends

2) driving back to SD

2a) which included a broken alternator in literally the middle of no where, a stay in a sketchy hotel in Vegas (with a frightened pup) and a car repair bill much too large

3) getting back in the swing of things with life after the holidays and going back to work

4) dealing with some intense and very serious family matters that could still use any prayers your willing to give

5) and trying to get this whole wedding planning underway

I've been a bit swamped. But when my heart is heavy over the horrible news we received about one of the members of my new family I just think about the wedding. I look at venue pictures, I browse my Pinterest boards and I add inspiration images to dress ideas.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the venue we're considering as well as some of my inspirations for our wedding.

  Enjoy!

A Quick Pup-date Update

Since I am busy studying for finals, getting ready for graduation and company coming this weekend along with cleaning the apartment, baking homemade dog treats for Ollie's birthday and about 100 other things, I thought I'd share this with you.

I took this while Ollie and I were on our most recent hike, while he was still enjoying the thought of walking. I always make sure to hydrate myself and my pup when we're out and about and him learning this makes it that much easier.

For those of you wondering, his blisters and feet are healing up fabulously. The nasty flaps of skin have fallen off, he doesn't limp anymore and the new callous is starting to form. He does have one spot that keeps being red (but we never actually see it bleeding) and it's pretty sensitive still but he is 100x better than he was last Friday. Thank you all for your kind words about my little guy.

Happy Tuesday from a rainy San Diego
