Baby H: Seven Months of Mark

He...

[+] weighs 17#5 according to our scale at home. He goes in for a booster shot in a few days and I'll update then.

[+] is basically wearing-out his 3-6 month size clothes and moving into 6-9 & 9 month sizes. More often than not the original item I pull from his drawer in the morning gets put on and then immediately taken off because it doesn't fit. Once his "current size" drawer is close to empty he'll officially make the transition. He's also in size 3 diapers and wears a size 2 shoe.

[+] got his first tooth on April 7th. Bottom left and I have a feeling it's pair is not too far behind. He wasn't super difficult while he was teething but we could definitely tell something was up. He was a bit more fussy when he was awake, was less interested in eating both bottles and solids and was waking a few times in the night to fuss. We're glad it popped through and his silly grin is even more cute now. We did get him a Baltic Amber necklace to wear to see if we can beat these teeth to the curb.

[+] is on the verge of mobility and it's so fun (and frustrating sometimes) to watch him try to learn. He's not quite to the "almost crawling stage" but he back scoots (aka pushes his big noggin across the carpet) and rolls in both directions towards something he wants. Sometimes he's really into it and ends up across the room, happily playing with the toy/edge of the couch/blanket/dog that he encounters. And sometimes he hates it and ends up moving quite a bit out of pure yelling and screaming and flailing.

[+] drinks from momma twice and four times from a bottle in a day. His bottles either have 5 or 6oz of either BM or formula in them. He also "eats" twice in a day and we've started introducing more and more table foods. I haven't made any more purees and most likely won't at this point since he's already doing so well feeding himself. We still stick to the "one new thing at a time for 3 days" rule but he also eats things his already had during those periods too. So far he's eaten apple and peach slices, whole bananas, baby puffs, pickles, pieces of bread, broccoli, baby carrots, peanut butter and scrambled eggs. We set him in the highchair, put food on his tray and let him have at it.

[+] sleeps 7:30pm to 7/7:30am thank the high heavens. Occasionally he'll wake up a bit earlier, say 6:30 ish, but we don't actually go get him until its wake-up time. Sometimes he'll happily coo in his crib playing with his lovey, sometimes not so much. He also takes three naps during the day for between 1-1.5hours each. I have a feeling the last nap of the day might be on it's way out sometime soon but we'll let him decide.

[+] has started saying "goo, gaa" and other G-sounds which is fantastic. Still working on the momma and dada though. He's also started screeching at the top of his lungs. Its so loud and not a habit we want to continue but aren't really sure what to do about it. Other than take him outside which makes him silent as a mouse, so strange.

[+] nicknames: Marky, Chunk-chunk, Buddy, Love-B, Mark-My-Son

[+] likes: dill pickles, being outside, Ollie, tummy sleeping

[+] dislikes: lotion on his cheek still, being left alone, when you take something away (that he shouldn't have i.e. trash, a fork, etc)
I...

[+] have 5 (yes five!!!) more days of classroom time until I'm done! I cannot believe the time is here. Granted I won't actually be "stress free" and will more likely be even busier through the end of June thanks to board studying but if I've made it this far I know I can put in the time the next two months and kill it.

[+] still battle lots of guilt related to breastfeeding except it takes on different forms than in times before. We have a great routine set up with his feeding schedule and I have no qualms about that. I get that he needed something more than I was able to provide for him for whatever the reason. But recently I don't even get 5oz in a single day pumping 3-4 times (which used to be 10oz+ when I started being a pumper). I knew this was bound to happen as pumps aren't as efficient and bodies don't respond the same way but that doesn't make it easier sometimes. My goal was 6 months which we've already met but goodness gracious what I wouldn't give to be a milk machine like some moms.

[+] need to start taking better care of myself. I'm getting enough sleep which is wonderful but have been saying "I need to workout" for months and months. Not to mention that I don't exactly eat very well either. Not bad 100% of the time but definitely not great. Mommas matter too and I just need to do it.

Mark's Firsts: Baptism

This past weekend our little boy was baptized and what a special day it was. Our immediate families and Mark's God-parents helped celebrate the day with us and everyone in the congregation just thought he was the most dapper little boy with his bow tie and Sperry's. There was a bit of stranger-danger going on for the actual baptism along with confusion as to why he was getting wet by a strange lady but thankfully the paci muffled his whines. He was an angel baby in the church up until the end when the service was cutting into nap time which only took a few minutes to reconcile in the lobby with some bouncing.
We followed up the service with a quick nap in the carseat and a delicious brunch in downtown Littleton. The food was phenomenal, I devoured my peppered bacon eggs benny in a flash and we got to spend some good quality time with our families before heading our separate ways. While the day off from studying may or may not have influenced my exam score from yesterday (oops!), we had such a great day of celebration that it was definitely worth it!

Happy Baptism day baby boy! We love you.

Five on Friday v8

Today I'm linking up with Christina from Carolina Charm for "Five on Friday"
Check out the link up below.
THE GOOD LIFE BLOG

[one] We officially found out that we will be staying put for the next two years of school. Years 3 & 4 involve clinical rotations and our school has many different "regions" where students rotate. Majority of the spots are located where we want to be but there just aren't enough for everyone in the class. The selection process is purely lottery based and I am so relieved that we don't have to move, don't have to find childcare or that I don't have a ridiculous commute. Three cheers for Denver rotations!
[two] Mark is getting baptized this coming Sunday and I'm really looking forward to the day. J's mom has the baptism gown J, his sister and their cousin's were all baptized in and brought it over a few weeks ago for us to try on. Unfortunately it doesn't quite fit (they were all baptized at younger ages) so he won't be wearing it on the big day but I was able to snap a few pictures when we played dress up and have to say he's a pretty cute baby. Even if he does look like a girl!

[three] I'm thinking about doing Whole30 sometime in the next few months because I just want to start feeling "better". I'm not all that interested in losing weight because of it but that would be a major plus. I simply don't have the time to get too involved in working out right now between the end of school and studying for boards and so I figured this was a good option. I have to eat so why not try something like this. I'm just trying to figure out when because I know it'll take a bit more prep and thought than my current diet and I don't want all that responsibility to fall on J to cook for me. He's awesome about dinners but I know I'll have to more diligently plan breakfasts and lunches instead of grabbing a quest bar or a frozen burrito before I head out the door. Has anyone done it with good success?
[four] My baby has a tooth! After what has seemed like months of endless drool, constant chewing and lots of wondering when it would actually show up, his bottom left tooth finally popped through on Tuesday. I knew they were making some serious movement the week or so leading up to it as he was extra fussy, waking more than usual in the night and his gums were changing daily. And there it was just poking through with all it's little ridges and sharpness. Ha! I have a feeling it's pair isn't far behind.
[five] From the beginning we've been pretty structured with raising Mark. We follow Baby Wise for his eat/wake/sleep cycles, he eats and naps at specific times during the day, we put him in his crib drowsy but awake and did some sleep training with him a few months ago. Overall it's worked wonderfully for our family and little boy but every now and then I get sad that I don't get very much "cuddle time" with him because of it. Well a week or so ago I ended up holding him for the last 30 min of his nap thanks to extra fussiness from shots/teeth and it was heavenly. While I do love that we're all able to put him down throughout the day, I cherish the rare moments of his breath on my chest too.

April Goals

March's Recap
[+] set an appointment at the eye doctor to get these eyes of mine checked out. Check and check. And I've got my new glasses (and one pair of contacts until I can use insurance again this summer) with my new prescription.

[+] get outside every single day. Yes. Even if it was just for a five minute study break on the back porch the outdoors was calling this month. We had a taste of warm weather and even gave the babe a few of his bottles on the patio which makes me excited for summer!

[+] do at least 5 practice questions for Boards each day in a random system and stay on top of the questions in the current system. This one was half completed. I've stayed on top of the current topics and have done an average of 5 a day but I haven't done the random system ones just yet.

[+] blog more. I blogged 5 times in March and only 3 times in February so I'll say this is a success. And it's been really nice getting back into it when I have a spare moment here and there.

[+] date my husband, for real this month. This somewhat happened but we weren't great at it. We went out as a family a number of times but need to be better about quality time as husband and wife instead of just as parents.

[+] wash and fold all the clothes Mark no longer fits in. Yeah nope. There seems to be an endless cycle of laundry in our house recently so this stuff didn't get done. But I did wash everything in the next size for Mark to wear and washed all our bed sheets/towels which rarely gets done.
April's Goals
[+] buy new herbs to put in my pot in the kitchen. I have an adorable red pot that was originally filled with about 6 different Italian herbs but it ended up dying after a lack-of-watering spell and to be honest, I think it had too many different things in it. I'm thinking two, basil and something else but don't know what yet.

[+] get these long locks of mine cut. I always contemplate something drastically different (shorter, bangs, etc etc) and rarely jump the gun on it. But whether it's something major or just a trim it's about time. The last time I had a hair cut I was still pregnant so it's been a while!

[+] take Mark swimming again. He loved it so much the first time but I feel like his little personality has changed so much since then so I can't wait to see him in the water now. He loves, absolutely loves, bath time so I have a feeling it'll be a huge hit.

[+] search for a deal on a new dress for Mark's baptism. I don't necessarily "need" a new dress as I have a handful that will work but if I can find a new one for a good price then I think it's a great occasion for one. And if I don't get something new, narrow down which dress I'll actually wear from my closet.

[+] date my husband more. This will be the month!

[+] pull out my bin of spring/summer clothes from the basement and start to put away all the heavy winter items. Spring in CO is a bit bi-polar sometimes (80 degrees yesterday with snow forecasted for Friday) so I can't officially make the switch yet but it can at least be in transition for a little while.

Happy April everyone! Where is 2015 going?!?
