100 Days of Happiness pt6

It's officially been 100 days! And what a ride it's been!

The seasons have changed from winter to spring and then back to winter with a late snow storm. 

J and I enjoyed many tasty treats and beverages.

We went on a fantastic Mexico vacation with some of our best friends for spring break.

Our O-dog has been nothing but his usual sweet self, bringing us so many smiles.

I've survived almost another semester of medical school and almost an entire first year.

We've shared the news about our bun in the oven, watched my belly grow and learned that we'll be having a son.

I can't wait to see what's in store for the next hundred days!

Apparently Ollie has been making me extra happy recently. Maybe that's because I've been home a lot more thanks to changes in school schedules. Love that silly pup and all the other little things in life that have made me smile lately. Only 20 more days till 100!

My 100 Days of Happiness Project is past the halfway mark. 

And it's already almost the end of April. 

Time sure is flying!

I'm thankful for the change in schedule I've gotten recently. 

I'm thankful for the small things. 

I'm thankful for my sweet little family.

I'm thankful for spring time and change on the horizon.

Prego wine is being drunk. 

Ollie is sleeping.

100 Happy Days is making me focus more on the positive things in life. 

It's helping me realize that there's always something to be thankful for even on the bad days. 

I am already more intentional about finding the good instead of focusing on the bad.

100 Days of Happiness pt 1

In the midst of all that's been happening lately 

[being half a year down in med school, having a babe growing in my belly, the weather starting to turn around, etc etc]

I decided to jump into a new project. 

Enter the 100 Happy Days project. 

I've been snapping a picture of something that's made me happy every day and plan on continuing to do so for a total of 100 consecutive days. My original plan was to Instagram the photos but that's just proven to be too difficult (especially when out of the country for spring break and while keeping a HUGE secrete for a few months). So instead I'm just blogging the pictures in parts. 

I started randomly on February 9th which means my last day will be May 20th. 

Who knows, maybe I'll decide to keep it up for 200 days but I'm not making any promises yet. 

For now, here's days 1-16.

#DecemberPhotoADay

It's been quite sometime since I've taken part in Fat Mum Slim's Photo-A-Day Challenge. 

And for some reason I thought December would be a good month to pick. 

Maybe because I'm getting sick of school. Maybe it's because I love the holiday season. Maybe because I'll actually have some free time this month. 

But regardless of the reason, I've been happily snapping a picture each day. 

Here's the first half of December and seriously, how is December already half over!

Tying the Knot: Photo Sneak Peak

Somehow it has already been one week since our wedding. I cannot even begin to describe how insane it is that time has flown this fast.

The day was absolutely amazing in every way!

Everything we worked on for the last year came together perfectly, we shared the evening with 90 of our closest family and friends and I find myself wishing I could go back and do it all over again. 

Thankfully our amazing photographer, Josh of Ignite Images, gave us a sneak peak of our wedding photos just yesterday! Can you believe that? Less than a week after our big day and we're already seeing pictures, he's awesome! And ever since I got that email I've been looking through these pictures constantly, trying to relive our big day. 

I promise to do more detailed recaps once I get all our photos but take a glimpse for now!

Seriously, my husband is so handsome!

We Sure Are Cute

As a project for the wedding I'm incorporating pictures of J and I growing up and I sometimes can't get enough of them. I love thinking about all the memories that I have from pictures of me and I absolutely can't get over how much of a cutie my fiance was. (And still is, don't worry babe.)

I'll share more of the project later once it's finished but here's a sneak peak.

Tying the Knot: Our Save The Date

Our Save the Dates were mailed about a week ago so I'm pretty sure that everyone's received them by now. 

(and if you haven't gotten yours yet then I'm sorry for spoiling the surprise!)

I loved our engagment pictures so much that I knew instantly that I would include at least one of them for our STD. (yes, Save the Date, not the other kind) I also knew that I wanted to make them myself to cut down on cost.

Traditionally STDs go out about 6 months so I cut it a few weeks early but I figured we're only going to be getting busier and our wedding is close to the holidays I wanted to give people plenty of warning and get these suckers in the mail!

I used a program on my computer called Comic Life to design them which was super easy to use. You select your picture and then add text boxes for all the rest. It took me quite a while to decide on a picture and final wording but I am so happy with how they turned out. In case you were wondering, the two fonts are JB Cursive and Pharmacy and I downloaded them both for free. (Lots of sites have them)

Once the design was finalized I exported the file to iPhoto and cropped it to 4x6 dimmensions just to ensure that nothing would get cut out on accident. I wanted to make them into a fridge magnent of some sort but couldn't find any for the price I wanted to spend so instead I had them printed as simple 4x6 photos from Target. I had a coupon that I thought was for 50% off and I'm still irked at the employees I worked with that day but oh well.

I had 50 photos printed at $0.15 each so I spent a total of $7.50 on the STDs themselves. They were mailed in standard A6 white envelopes from Staples that come 50 in a box for $8.50. Add on $20 for stamps and I spent a grand total of $36 to DIY my STDs!

They designed exactly how I wanted them and they were also a great deal. I personalized them even further by stamping a cute "Happily Ever After" stamp across the seal of the envelope in navy. I'm still in the deciding process of what I want to do when it comes to our formal invites but after all the success I had with this project I can bet I'll be DIYing again for those as well. I'm also planning on doing a similar project for our table numbers (based off something I loved from Pinterest) and I can't wait to get started on those!

Tying the Knot: Engagement Pictures

When J and I went home to Colorado a few weeks ago it was all about the wedding. Wedding appointments, wedding dress shopping, wedding cake tasting. I think you get the point. 

One of my favorite parts about that weekend was that we got to meet with our photog, Josh of Ignite Images, and take our engagement pictures. 

I am absolutely thrilled with how they turned out and I cannot wait to enjoy them for years to come. I'm planning on using these pictures as our Save the Dates, giving some of them to family members as gifts and also making a photo book of all the pictures to use as our guest book at the wedding so I don't want to spoil the surprise later on.

.... but I figured a sneak peak of at least a few of the hundred images would be alright ;-)

How is it already three weeks into February? Here's my week three for the Feb Photo A Day Challenge from fat mum slim. 

Missed week 1 or week 2?

Feb 15: Phone

I have a T-Mobile MyTouch and it wears a purple gel skin.

Feb 16: Something New

Okay so this isn't really super new but I think it still works. It still feels new to think that I'm engaged!

Feb 17: Time

I'm supposed to be at work at 7:30 every day and when I'm early I end up sitting in my car listening to more music before I start my day.

Feb 18: Drink

I've been making these smoothies for breakfast and they are delish! Oatmeal, a frozen banana, peanut butter, milk and a little honey. 

Feb 19: Something you hate to do

Some days on the weekend J and I end up taking afternoon naps and I always hate getting up to turn on the lights after it's gotten dark for the day. 

Feb 20: Handwriting

My mom seems to think I've "gotten messier since high school" but I actually like my handwriting. 

 Feb 21: A fave photo of you
J and I both graduated from SDSU in May of last year, 2011. It was a huge day for each of us and an even bigger day for us as a couple for what we've been able to accomplish.

Here is my second week of photos from the Photo Challenge on fat mum slim! I realize that this is a week late but it's better late than never, right? While I might be bad at blogging about these pictures I have really enjoyed taking them each day and if nothing else, tweeting about them. I think I'm going to continue and do the month of March too.

J was out of town for the weekend so I spent Friday night catching up on my dvr shows, drinking wine and reading blogs in my sweats. 

Feb 11: Makes you happy

Love this little guy. Regardless of my mood a smile from him always brightens my day. 

Feb 12: Inside your closet

J and I have separate closets in our house now and I absolutely love it. 

Feb 13: Blue

I use this mug at least 3 or 4 days each week to take coffee into work. I got it as a Christmas gift a few years ago and even though it's cracked it's still my favorite one (because it sparkles!)

Feb 14: Heart

J brought home some beautiful pink tipped roses on Valentine's Day. I sure do love him with my whole heart!

If you follow me on Twitter then you've probably noticed that I decided to jump on the bandwagon this month and play along with the photo challenge that Chantelle of Fat Mum Slim is hosting. For each day of February there is a "picture topic" and you interpret it however you like and snap a pic. 

I figured daily tweets and weekly blog posts of my pictures would work out the best so....

Here's week #1

Feb 1: Your view today

My birthday is in the beginning of February and I got my first box in the mail! I love getting packages and mail in general (when it's not bills that is) 

Feb 2: Words

This is how I killed a little time when I was early for one of my tutoring sessions. I'm currently reading House Rules by Jodi Picoult (love her!)

Feb 3: Hands

I work for a biotech company so latex gloves are like part of my uniform. Latex and dry ice that is.

Feb 4: A stranger

I have a weird phobia of sorts of taking pictures of people I don't know. Plus a lot of my day on the 4th was spent with no strangers present. Therefore I tweeted "there's no strangers in this bed" in a poor attempt at this prompt. Oops. 

Feb 5: 10am

My birthday! And at 10am I was trying on my new pair of Lululemon yoga pants given to me by my momma. They are absolutely the most comfortable lounge pants I've ever worn. 

Feb 6: Dinner

We made cheese burgers on the grill for dinner and I've been going through a weird stage lately where I don't want a bun with mine. Just the patty with a little mayo-ketchup mix and I'm set. 

Feb 7: Button

Similar to latex gloves, my work involves a timer on a regular basis. These are usually the only buttons I push during a day like this.

What We've Been Up To

It's summer time. The weather in San Diego has been in the 80's. Days are long and nights are warm. Our stress levels have been relatively low. And we've been spending a lot of quality time together....

Like.... trips to the park. Which includes bringing two frisbees to throw in hopes that one will entertain Ollie while we play with the other. Realizing that is not going to happen because he only wants what we have. Tying him to the tree while he chokes himself to get at us. Untying him and trying to teach him to catch a frisbee. Laughing at his pathetic yet enthusiastic attempts that even include getting hit directly in the nose. Then laying in the grass together as a family enjoying the warm weather, our well behaved pup and a wonderful Saturday afternoon.

Like.... stealing Ollie's collar in the evenings and cracking up laughing at his attempts to get it back. It's like he knows it's his and doesn't want us to have it. And more specifically, doesn't want J to wear it. But given the fact that he's our submissive, mild mannered dog his only defense is showering J with kisses.
Like.... laying in bed together as we settle in for the night. Sometimes the boys will wrestle, sometimes Ollie brings a toy up to chew on but mostly the nights are filled with snuggles and kisses and smiles. And a few moments where Ollie rolls around burrowing in the blankets and almost tumbles off the bed. To which we laugh and then comfort our frightened pup from his near-death experience.

Life is good.

Tail Wagging Tuesday

Today I'm participating in C Mae's Tail Wagging Tuesday for the first time. It's no surprise that I love my fur baby and wont skip a chance to show him off to the blog-land. Plus I love looking back at how sweet and little he used to be and how big and handsome he's becoming.
